Spring cleaning part 1 & 2

yes, I know, summer just started in this part of the world and I’m talking about spring cleaning but that’s just the way it is for procrastinators..

anyway, it was about time for me to get rid of some “old stuff” and last Friday I finally did the first steps.

All started with a security issue at my hosting provider (which I told them about) where as an answer I got a “nah, the infrastructure is too old, we’re not fixing/upgrading anymore”..
OK, thank you and goodbye.

I signed up with a new provider and then.. put it aside because I had too many things going on.  In the meantime I helped out others with some WordPress stuff so at one point I decided it was time to deal with my site/email accounts and so on.

So the first cleaning part was about email. Although this is also going to be part three and probably four, at first it was about removing accounts and emails from the old server.
I’ve been using Canary as a client but for cleaning up and the archiving of a few items I went back to Thunderbird.

Once that was done, it was time to move my little blog to the new infrastructure. Because of a LOT of restrictions from the old provider, I was not able to directly import the data to the new infrastructure. I had to do a few manual steps and found that with Duplicator for WP it was really easy and fast.

and now, Hurray! my first entry on the new and shiny-fast hosting infrastructure, with new gimmicks and finally https.
